The song Fantastic Voyage was an immediate success & along with Your Love Is On The One, Say Yes & Eveready Man they would reach heady heights on the charts. Fueling the success of this album (which first came out on Solar and was reissued on CD by The Right. In 1977, Lakeside came out with an album that didnt go very far, and it was Shot of Love that made the band well known. It's interesting that this 1980 release really put Lakeside out there with bands like Slave, Bar-Kays & Parliament especially being from Dayton,Ohio this now promoted them to the first division of Funkateers. Shot of Love has often been called Lakesides debut album, but in fact, it was Lakesides second.

'Your Love Is On The One' was also a hit from the album but not released in the UK another grinding anthem with clipped funk guitar reminiscent of Ray Parker Jnr- splendid stuff as is 'Strung Out'.

With deep bass churning away (a fantastic mix of moog and slap bass) a special Solar Records signature sound, full of groove and awesome, gritty vocals its a must have song for anyone who appreciates late 70's/early 80's funk. R&B No 1) and the title track is a funk bomb worthy of anybody's 'Greatest Hits' and is probably the best record the band ever made. Side 2 keeps the party going with 'Fantastic Voyage' which was a huge success for Lakeside and well deserved. Opener and album entitled track,'Shot Of Love' is a totally inspirational mid tempo dance cut and there's plenty of sizzling funk to get your chops around and the breezy sounding 'It's All The Way Live' testifies to this religiously! There are many delights on side One of this exceptional platter 'Pull My String' and the Funkadelic inspired 'From 9.00 Until' are but a few (It's absolutely insane that Solar never released a double-live Lakeside set.) Shot of Love was the first Lakeside release to boast one of its famous thematic covers this one depicted the funksters as Robin Hood-type archers, whereas on future covers, they'd be everything from pirates (Fantastic Voyage) to jockeys (Keep on Moving Straight Ahead) to genies (Your Wish Is My Command).Those arbiters of great taste Robinsongs have only done it again a cracking compilation from one of the last funk bands of the 70's and 80's.Funk heaven awaits and those pearly gates reveal some absolute gems awaiting you from their first three albums for Dick Griffey's Solar Records.
